Christina Sofia Febr 24, 1839 – 6/1 1930

Christina was born in Sötåsa South FarmFebr 24. When she was 17 years old (1856) she went to work as a maid at Åsens North Farm for 2 years, where also her younger sister Hedda Lovisa came to work 9 years later.

She married Karl Johan Andersson from Kieryd 30/6 1860 when she was 21 years old.  He was born 19/5 1833 – 6 years older than Christina. Karl Johan was the son of Anders Nilsson,from Rutfall (not known place) and Stina Jansdotter.

They had 9 children: 2 sons: August, who only reached 3 months of age, and Carl Oskar and 7 daughters Hilma Josefina,  E/Amelia Lovisa, Sofia Wilhelmina ‘ Minnie ‘, Amanda Olivia, Hilda Christina, Hulda and Walborg.

Christina and Carl Johan Andersson first lived in the neighbourhood of Carl Johans home: Ingelsbo where they had their 4 first children. 1868 they moved to Sötåsa. This is the year Johannes started building a new house there. They moved there on the 22nd birthday – Nov 19- of little brother Johan August. That same day also Christinas younger sister Hedda Lovisa moved back to Sötåsa, after having been out working, to stay for a year.

The family wrote a leasing contract for farming land with Johannes of 100 Riks-Daler and stayed at Sötåsa farm until it was sold by Johannes 1874. Christina helped her mother preparing dead people from the region for their funerals while Christinas father Johannes was making the caskets at Sötåsa.

The same day Sötåsa was sold they bought 1/8 of a farm on the other side of the lake:Önnestorp, and moved there. The daughters Hilda and Hulda were born here 1874  and Hulda 1877. Their youngest daughter Walborg is noted born in Älgås (?).

Christina and Karl Johan and their family left for  the US 22nd of May 1903. Mother Anna-Greta had then passed away 1900, after having stayed a lot with Christinas family after father Johannes died in 1890. Christina was then 63 years old. Hilma- their oldest daughter had already moved to the US 1882 – 20 years earlier when she was 20 years old and was married and had a big family. The whole family now emigrated to the US.

 

 

The family settled as farmers in Rehoboth, Massachusetts. The river Palmer runs through the farm, where they settled.

Christina died 90 years old in Woodstock, McHenry, Illinois where she lived her last 6 years. She had then been in the US for 27 years.  She survived her husband by 7 years. He died in Providence, Rhode island 24/6 1924.
