Håkan Johannesson 4/2 1782 – 15/10 1850 From Boeryd to Sötåsa

Håkan is the father of Johannes and was born in Boeryd, a farm neighbouring Per Brahes pleasure hunting castle Brahehälla.

He was no 2 of  6 siblings:

1.Maria was 2 years older than Håkan (1780).                                                                         3.Johannes was 2 years younger (1784).                                                                                 4. Nils (1787-1845) was 5 years younger.                                                                             5. Lars (1789 – 1853) was 7 years younger.                                                                       6. Kristina  was 9 years younger and became only 2 years old (1791-1793).

We can imagine how the children would make exciting excursions to this castle through the woods, which was kept in original shape until 1857 when some of the roof blew down. It has been restored several times but is now a ruin. It was built in 1680 by Count Per Brahe the younger, who died the same year. He had bought Näs Manor 1659. A master-mason Måns from Hultsbäck in Bälaryd socken, was building the castle at this property for Brahe. 1795 as Håkan was 13 years old it is said that some of the tiles were stolen by the farmer Anders from Skog at the opposite side of the lake and he was convicted for the crime.300px-Suecia_3-088_;_Brahalla2

Håkan married Stina Larsdotter from Sötåsa South Farm 1803 and moved there. Stina was 12 years older than Håkan and he was 21 years at the time and she was 33.  They had two children: Lars Peter 1804 and Johannes 1809.

In the Husförhör (Yearly church hearings) he always did well- see links below)

His wife Stina is noted sickly and taciturn in the churchbooks.

Håkan and Stina had one maid at Sötåsa: Annika Jonsson from Åby, born 1773: 11 years older than Håkan and then they had one farmhand: Jan Larsson born 1763 from Adelöv: 23 years older than Håkan.

1846, in the Churchbooks, we find him still living at Sötåsa South Farm with his son Johannes and his family, who had taken over the farm. He is then 64 years old. His brother Lars lived in one of the houses at Sötåsa (Backstugan) with his wife Anna-Lisa Danielsdotter from Säby, as they got older – Håkan in his 60ies and Lars being 7 years younger. The couple were both sickly.

Spring 1842 both Håkans and Lars’  wives died and they became widowers. See below.

He died 68 years old- 8 years after his wife.
