Vedbo is in the northwest corner\" alt=\"Smaland-karta\" src=\"wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/11\/Smaland-karta.gif\" width=\"339\" height=\"350\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u00a0In the northwest- between Gr\u00e4nna and Tran\u00e5s- Vedbo District is situated. It is divided into a northern (Norra Vedbo) and a southern part (S\u00f6dra Vedbo). In the Northern part, Adel\u00f6v parish is situated where we find S\u00f6t\u00e5sa as one of the small villages.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/maps\/ms?msid=202734398850949442153.0004d3448268161a5bfb1&amp;msa=0&amp;ll=55.37911,-10.019531&amp;spn=65.338417,158.027344&amp;iwloc=0004e56a081531d056dbf\" target=\"_blank\">Adel\u00f6v church<\/a> is in the center of the parish:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/01\/Sm\u00e5landsl\u00e4kt-018.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-3471\" alt=\"Sm\u00e5landsl\u00e4kt 018\" src=\"wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/01\/Sm\u00e5landsl\u00e4kt-018-1024x680.jpg\" width=\"584\" height=\"387\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ancestry.smars.se\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/01\/Sm\u00e5landsl\u00e4kt-018-1024x680.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/ancestry.smars.se\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/01\/Sm\u00e5landsl\u00e4kt-018-300x199.jpg 300w, https:\/\/ancestry.smars.se\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/01\/Sm\u00e5landsl\u00e4kt-018-451x300.jpg 451w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 584px) 100vw, 584px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>S\u00f6t\u00e5sa is one of the many villages in Adel\u00f6v parish. (<em>See map by pressing the colored names)<\/em><\/p>\n<p>S\u00f6t\u00e5sa village had 3 big farms in the 1800s:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/maps\/ms?msid=202734398850949442153.0004d3448268161a5bfb1&amp;msa=0&amp;ll=57.969607,14.687691&amp;spn=0.02877,0.077162&amp;iwloc=0004d4339baa3b861f9ac\" target=\"_blank\">S\u00f6t\u00e5sa Norrg\u00e5rd<\/a> = North farm, S\u00f6t\u00e5sa Mellang\u00e5rd = Middle farm and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/maps\/ms?msid=202734398850949442153.0004d3448268161a5bfb1&amp;msa=0&amp;ll=57.961913,14.687691&amp;spn=0.028776,0.077162&amp;iwloc=0004d344d0427b8cf1652\" target=\"_blank\">S\u00f6t\u00e5sa S\u00f6derg\u00e5rd<\/a> = South farm.<\/p>\n<p>S\u00f6t\u00e5sa South farm consisted of 3 main parts in the 1800s:<\/p>\n<p>1. The old house where the family first lived and later Johannes and Anna-Greta stayed at the Exclusion-contract. One little house for a soldier: Soldattorp nr 12 H\u00e4sthagen= a little cottage which a soldier in the Swedish army could live in as long as he served the army. This was a common way farmers paid a sort of tax, by having a soldier at their farm and the tax was paid to the soldier by giving him shelter and defined amounts of foods and tools etc. A 200 year old tradition going on from the 1600s to 1901. There were clear rules about in what condition that place should be in. Inspections were made and documented. If the soldier was killed or died, his family had to move, but could get some help at least for a while. The soldier living at S\u00f6t\u00e5sa South farm 1853 was <a href=\"http:\/\/www.alingsasslaktforskarforening.se\/Bilder\/000301.pdf\" target=\"_blank\">G Ax<\/a>*- (*swedish article about Soldiers life)<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/01\/Soldattorp-nr-12.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" title=\"Soldattorp no 12 at S\u00f6t\u00e5sa: Terri Smith-Weller found this along the shore of Lake S\u00f6t\u00e5sa marking the place the Soldiers cottage once was situated. They all moved away eventually. The oldest daughter <a title=\"Christina Sofia Febr 24, 1839 \u2013 6\/1 1930\" href=\"http:\/\/ancestry.smars.se\/exempelsida\/christina\" target=\"_blank\">Christina<\/a> and her family stayed for quite a few years on the farm and worked together with her parents. It was sold to the neighbours of S\u00f6t\u00e5sa in K\u00e4llevik 1874 by Johannes and Anna-Greta who were in their 70ies. Christinas family then moved to the other side of the lake, to \u00d6nnestorp, where they bought some land. Johannes and Anna-Greta stayed at the farm on a traditional Exclusion contract at the farm for the rest of their lives and even after the first buyer died and the sons took over. The youngest daugher <a title=\"Matilda Sept 5 1858 \u2013  Oct 27 1923\" href=\"http:\/\/ancestry.smars.se\/exempelsida\/matilda\" target=\"_blank\">Matilda<\/a> was 16 years old at the time of selling and was still living at home. The contract ended 1900 as Anna-Greta died.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">We have been wondering about the fact that the farm was not inherited or bought by one of the many children. It was sold to Johan Johansson in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/maps\/ms?msid=202734398850949442153.0004d3448268161a5bfb1&amp;msa=0&amp;ll=57.953853,14.701402&amp;spn=0.007161,0.01929&amp;iwloc=0004f72d36241a6532bd8\" target=\"_blank\">K\u00e4llevik<\/a> and later taken over by his sons Johan and Georg Johansson. Based on this it seems as if these neighbours were at good terms. The answer to this question will remain a substrate of speculation.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Johannes&#8217; mother <a title=\"Stina Larsdotter 29\/1 1769 S\u00d6T\u00c5SA* \u2013 28\/2 1842\" href=\"http:\/\/ancestry.smars.se\/the-ancestors\/johannes-72-1809\/stina-larsdotter-291-1770\" target=\"_blank\">Stina<\/a> (1769) and her brother Johan and sister Maria had grown up in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/maps\/ms?msid=202734398850949442153.0004d3448268161a5bfb1&amp;msa=0&amp;ll=57.953853,14.701402&amp;spn=0.007161,0.01929&amp;iwloc=0004f72d36241a6532bd8\" target=\"_blank\">K\u00e4llevik<\/a>, the neighbouring farm. Johannes&#8217; father H\u00e5kan Johannisson, came from a neighbouring village- Boaryd.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">In\u00a01793, at S\u00f6t\u00e5sa South farm, a Jonas Svensson (1729) lived there together with his wife Maria Olofsdotter, both from Adel\u00f6f, and a Nils Monson (1754) with his family of wife and 2 daughters.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">?It has been said there was a selling contract where Stina (Johannes mother) was becoming the owner of the neighbouring farm S\u00f6t\u00e5sa South farm. (?)<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Johan Larsson- Stinas brother, took over K\u00e4llevik by 1803. \u00a0Stina and Johan and their mother Cisilia had resided in B\u00e5llarp farm (north of S\u00f6t\u00e5sa lake) during some time after 1797 as they left K\u00e4llevik for some years (The father Lars died 1800). Stinas brother Johan died only 49 years old and the rest of his family moved to N\u00f6ttekulla, another village in the same parish. Eventually a Johan Svensson from Lomma moved to K\u00e4llevik and his son Johan was the one who bought S\u00f6t\u00e5sa South farm from Johannes 1874.
